Vegeta refused to let the ‘Saiyan heritage go to waste’, so he gave each hybrid Saiyan (Gohan, Trunks, Goten, Pan, and Bulla/Bra) a proper Saiyan name along with their normal human one. Though they all have one, almost none of them know any of the others’. It makes them have a more special bond with Vegeta and it makes them feel more connected to the Saiyan Part of them.

To the surprise (and relief) of her parents, Bra’s actually more like Vegeta when it comes to relationships. Men are nice to have around, but she’s not dependent on them as an outside source of validation. She goes through them like quickly, tossing them away like last season’s handbag after she grows tired of them. Instead of being sentimental about her past loves, she treats them more like conquests to brag about and then forget. It takes her a really long time to find someone she respects enough to treat as an equal as opposed to temporary arm candy (as well as someone who can put up with the ridiculous ego you know she’s inherited).

King Vegeta’s mother was a Tuffle (Tsufuru-jin, whatever) and his father was a Saiyan. Very few Saiyans and Tuffles both knew that and all were presumed killed, in order to keep the King’s secret.

Paragus knew, however, and thought he could manipulate Vegeta into giving him a higher station in life; a better future for Broly. But Vegeta would have none of that and tried to kill him. So, it wasn’t because of Broly’s abnormally high chi that he and his father were supposed to die.

That’s why Paragus set up such an elaborate scheme to get to Vegeta, years down the line. That’s why he wanted revenge so bad. It’s kind of a shame he never got to tell Vegeta the truth about the King.

That’s also why Vegeta will never catch up to Gokuu or Gokuu’s kids, power-wise. His Tuffle blood is holding him back.

On Saiyan parentage.

We don’t have images of mothers for Gokuu and Radditz or Vegeta and Tarble. But what we do have is two sets of siblings. Take Gokuu- he pretty much looks exactly like Bardock. Then go down the line and look at Gohan- though he’s only half Saiyan, he looks a great deal like Radditz when his hair grows out. Goten starts out as a carbon copy of Gokuu, but as a teenager, ends up resembling Radditz. Vegeta is practically a clone of his father, as well.

I think that, in pure-bred Saiyans, each offspring will look like one of the parents. So Radditz and Tarble must be what Bardock and King Vegeta’s wives looked like… just, you know, female.

This theory falters a little with Vegeta’s children. But I chalk that up to King Vegeta being half Tuffle; making Vegeta and Tarble both 1/4 Tuffle, and, therefore, the genes they pass on are more susceptible to manipulation. (No, I don’t really remember how genetics works.)

Goku didn’t stay on Yardrat for more than a year just to learn the Instant Transmission. He stayed so that he could learn to control his Super Saiyan state. His thoughts would linger on the deaths of the Namekians, Vegeta’s suffering and dying wish, the near death of Piccolo, Frieza, the gruesome death of his best friend Krillin, his son, but worst of all, his own weakness. Thoughts of him being unable to prevent any of those things the tyrant committed from happening would overtake his mind and as a result, he was often sent into uncontrollable fits of rage, causing him to nearly lose himself with each transformation. Because he didn’t want to cause harm to his family, friends, or any of the Earthlings, he declined the wish to be brought back to Earth. He couldn’t risk the safety of his loved ones on his inexperience with the foreign (albeit destructive) power of a Super Saiyan. With the help of the Yardratians (?), Goku was able to control it. His only regret was him not telling his family the true reason behind his stay. Thus goes the price for power.

I believe that Gohan and Videl got together in the Mirai timeline. Gohan had probably either saved her, or Videl saved him after an encounter with the Androids. It first started out as just being friends, with Gohan going to visit her every once in awhile to make sure she was alright and didn’t get harmed by the Androids. They eventually started having feelings for each other and kind of became a couple without realizing it.

They also had Pan, who was born a couple of months before Gohan died. They didn’t want to have a baby (Because they didn’t want it growing up in a world of fear and violence), but after finding out that Videl was pregnant, they didn’t really have no other choice but to have it. A couple of months into the pregnancy, they started looking forward to having a baby. It would be something to bring some light in their lives.

Relationships and women (I might add more to this one, I feel like some things could be missing or not fully expanded on.)

All Saiyan women are just as brazen and strong as the men. Their thinner bodies, however, provide them more agility than men.

Higher-class women, such as relatives of the king and queen, did not engage in combat. Instead most were given political positions (to be expanded on.)

Bloodsport among the lower-class was the primary deciding factor for which Saiyans chose their mates. Provided they didn’t kill their opponent on accident, if the male or female believes their opponent was a worthy adversary, they are eligible to become their mate.

After choosing her mate, Saiyan women have the chose to lead the life of a caretaker or the life of a warrior. It was easier to lead one life than try to balance the two out.

Tied up/cut hair is mandatory for women who go out to distant planets and fight.

Single female Saiyans usually lead the warrior life, while a good half of the mated ones are mothers.

Most Saiyan relationships stem from the arena. The closer the spar and the more satisfaction gained from it, the more respect the mated Saiyans will have for each other.

Mating is for life (as cliche as that sounds)

Sex is both for pleasure and procreation. One or both of the mates are gone away from home and each other for periods of time, and they saw no shame in a little homecoming sex.

Nights with the full moon out prove to be the most adventurous in bed, provided they stay inside and away from direct eye contact with the moon.

Last notes on religion before I hit the hay.

Festivals celebrating victory or holiday were held outside of the city near the jungles. These were regarded as tribute and praise to their ancestors.

There is no physical manifestation of the spirits being summoned by the shaman. He will take on their voice and literally speak for them.

The shamans are the only Saiyans allowed to eat from the trees they reside in, because of their power and wisdom. They were quite literally Trees of Life, granting the shamans eternal life whenever they ate this fruit. Turles was the only other Saiyan that was ever able to eat the forbidden fruit, only because no one was around to tell him otherwise after the destruction of Planet Vegeta.

Gods/religion

I don’t believe the Saiyans had a set theology. Instead, they worship generations gone by and pray to them.

Because of this practice, Saiyans honor the value of family (just not necessarily outwardly.)

They can actually communicate with their ancestors in times of crisis, with the help of shamans

The shamans are the elderly warriors that are simply too frail to battle again. They also tend to look more ape or baboon-like; sunken or drawn faces, fur upon the hands and feet, darker skin, hunched shoulders, and their eyes are a permanent Oozaru red and pupil-less. They live outside of the cities in the jungles and tree tops. Only one shaman has left the safety of the jungle, and he stays permanently with the royal family as their consort.

Each shaman can speak for a entire Saiyan family, able to communicate with the ancestors of both the mother’s family and the father’s family.

I don’t believe there is any ‘magic’ used in the Saiyan culture. The shamans would most likely use their ki that’s been strengthened from years of fighting and then years of wisdom to speak with the spirits.

Small side notes

As children, Vegeta and Tarble saw the palace shaman often. Vegeta never cared for the old man, but Tarble was captivated by the stories he told and what the spirits would tell him. Later on, Vegeta began to remember the values the shaman talked of, and maybe they helped mold him into a better man and father on Earth.

I like to think Turles is a direct descendant of a shaman Saiyan, and he may have introduced him to the Tree of Might, which has kept the elders alive for so long. After the demise of the planet, Turles carried the seeds of the tree with him and began his search to find a planet suitable for its growth. I don’t believe it’s explained how he obtained the seeds anyway. (I need to watch the movies again, pffft.)

Underwolf suggested I post these so here they are, in ramble format.

I like to think that he did in fact become the Ookami Sen’nin and started taking on students. He moved back to the old hideout in the desert (since the area had become more populated over the years) and made some renovations to make it more suitable for living. Like a screened-in deck and solar panels. He did get married, although it took him a while because he’s still somewhat awkward around women. I’m leaning towards him hooking up with Blue-Haired Lunch (after her personalities were split into two separate entities, yep I’m still sticking with that).

Regarding why there are no female saiyan warriors: I dismiss the fact that women were simply not the main target readers of DB and say it had to do with the society on Vegeta-sei. I think, despite the popular opinion, the saiyan race was a highly technologically advanced race (I don’t take the Tsufurians into account) and they didn´t rely anymore on normal reproduction but instead tried to make it completely separated from growth in a body. I also don´t think families are a concept that can be kept when at least half of the population of a planet is constantly off world for whatever reason. Regarding child birth, the absolutely body free method didn´t work well, especially the separation of the children from one person they can relate to, so it would remain on the women to be responsible for the birth of any children and the supervision of their first year – pregnancy was then a matter of the government, since sex itself was not needed and not even allowed for reproduction (not for fun – that was more than allowed).

The lack of female warriors was then caused by the fact that most women were needed for the steady growth of the race, so female children with low powers were kept on the planet and trained to become scientists/technician/politicians or anything else required on a well-functioning society, while the females with a high power level were trained as their male counterparts. Their increase in power was slower than of male saiyans, which lead many females to leave the military training early, while instead it was just to keep as much females on the planet as possible. That also meant that the male saiyans were forced to go into military service. That and the sending away of infants was introduced when the saiyans started working for Freeza, since then higher amounts of military personnel was needed. I don´t think the saiyans purged planets before.

I also don´t think there was a ‘queen’ on Vegeta-sei. It is more probable that queens were not wanted for ruling the planet, since they could only get so much children and a child with high power was needed for the throne. Instead, the genetic material of the king was used on enough suitable females to produce at least one offspring with high power. So it could be possible for Vegeta to have had multiple siblings without him knowing or caring about it. And yes, I am not taking the awful Bardock Movie into account, although there is not really a contradiction to the ‘plot’ here. Good genes could also mean that Vegeta might have had a strong sister, but since she was no throne material, she was not that important politically.

Vegeta was a father figure to Goten while he was growing up. To some extent, he was also one for Gohan. Even though Goku came back, those two boys never forgot the other full-blooded Saiyan in their lives. They hold him in a very high regard and often seek him out for advice and a good training session in the gravity room.

Seventeen found Eighteen living peacefully with Krillin. At first he kept away, but gradually he started dropping in until his visits became regular. He would never admit it out loud, but he was happy his sister had found someone who cared as much for her as Krillin did. Her happiness was all that mattered to him…that and spending time with his niece who he’d become to cherish a lot.
